Overview

Overview

Reyrolle 5, series code 7SR5, is the current generation of Siemens Reyrolle protection relays. Siemens' catalogue (Edition 11, status 09.2026) calls it the new generation of 7SR devices and says it builds on the proven performance of the existing 7SR1 and 7SR2 products: the protection functions and the user interface are recognisable to anyone who used the previous generation, while the hardware, software and communications are updated. Siemens names subtransmission networks, distribution networks and industrial installations as its use.

Three families

  • 7SR51, overcurrent and feeder: 7SR5110 non-directional, 7SR5111 and 7SR5121 directional; 4 or 5 current inputs and 0 or 4 voltage inputs.
  • 7SR54, transformer differential: two-winding (7SR5420, 7SR5421) and three-winding (7SR5430, 7SR5431) transformers with 8 or 12 current inputs; all vector groups and earthing connections are supported.
  • 7SR57, motor protection: 7SR5710, 7SR5711 and 7SR572 with 4 or 8 current inputs, motor differential (87M) for large motors and up to 16 temperature sensor inputs for thermal monitoring.

Hardware

A withdrawable relay element in size 6, 8 or 12 cases (3/8, 1/2 and 3/4 of a 19-inch rack, 4U high) with a backlit 128 x 128 LCD and 28 programmable tri-colour LEDs. The current inputs are combined 1 A/5 A, the auxiliary supply of DC 24 to 250 V or AC 100 to 230 V covers the whole range, and the binary input thresholds (DC 24, 110 or 220 V) are set in software, which keeps the number of ordering options small. Conformal coating is standard in the catalogue ordering options (device options 1 and 2); the older -0AA0 articles still listed on SiePortal have none.

Communications and security

IEC 61850 (Edition 1 and 2.1) is standard on the two rear Ethernet ports (RJ45 or optical LC), together with DNP3 TCP or Modbus TCP and RSTP, PRP and HSR redundancy. The RS485 port carries IEC 60870-5-103, Modbus RTU or DNP3 and, according to the catalogue, is compatible with existing Reyrolle 7SR solutions. Cyber security covers signed firmware, an encrypted link between the device and the PC tool, security logging and role based access control (RBAC).

Engineering

Configuration is done with Reydisp Manager 2, which the catalogue says is a free download from Siemens' site and connects over the front USB port or an Ethernet network. IEC 61850 projects also need a system configuration tool: Siemens' IEC 61850 System Configurator (the one DIGSI uses) or a third-party tool. The device interface languages are English, French, German, Portuguese, Spanish, Turkish and Italian; there is no Persian.

How it relates to the earlier Reyrolle range

The order code (MLFB) on the device tells you which generation you have: codes starting with 7SR5 are Reyrolle 5; codes 7SR1, 7SR2 and 7SR4 belong to the earlier range covered on the Reyrolle protection relays page. For several cancelled older articles (for example 7SR22 and 7SR242 Duobias) SiePortal names a "Substitute solution" with 7SR5111, 7SR5121 or 7SR54.

Frequently asked questions

How do I tell whether my relay is Reyrolle 5 or from the earlier Reyrolle range?

From the order code (MLFB) on the device. On Reyrolle 5 the code is printed on the fascia and on the terminal label and starts with 7SR5, for example 7SR5110-…. Codes 7SR1…, 7SR2… and 7SR4… belong to the earlier range. The software differs too: Reyrolle 5 is configured with Reydisp Manager 2, the earlier range with Reydisp Evolution or Reydisp Manager 1.

Does Reyrolle 5 replace the earlier 7SR1 and 7SR2 range?

Siemens' catalogue calls 7SR5 the new generation of 7SR devices, and for several cancelled articles (7SR22, 7SR242 Duobias and part of 7SR21) SiePortal names 7SR5111, 7SR5121, 7SR51 or 7SR54 as a "Substitute solution". The whole earlier range is not cancelled, though: some models such as 7SR10 and 7SR45 are still Active, as the Reyrolle protection relays page explains. "Substitute solution" means a suggested replacement, not necessarily a drop-in one that needs no re-engineering.

What software configures Reyrolle 5, and does it cost anything?

With Reydisp Manager 2, which the catalogue says is free of charge. Siemens' download package also contains the tools for the earlier range, and the setting templates are installed separately. An IEC 61850 project also needs a separate system configuration tool: Siemens' IEC 61850 System Configurator or a third-party tool.

Does the device interface offer Persian?

No. The user-selectable languages on the device are English, French, German, Portuguese, Spanish, Turkish and Italian.

What is the difference between the -0AA0, -1AA0 and -2AA0 suffixes in the order code?

According to the SiePortal article descriptions, -1AA0 means with conformal coating and -2AA0 means conformal coating plus a 10-year warranty. The -0AA0 versions have no coating, and for 7SR51 SiePortal notes "Substitute: 7SR51*-1AA0". A new order should specify -1AA0 or -2AA0.
