SINAMICS V20 is Siemens' basic-performance converter for simple motion sequences with low requirements. Siemens calls it a simple and economical drive solution that stands out for short commissioning times, ease of operation, robustness and energy saving. It is a one-piece unit that also works without extra modules ("out-of-the-box"), with a BOP operator panel on the converter itself.
The V20 is for jobs where V/f speed control with USS or Modbus RTU communication is enough. The V20 operating instructions describe no STO safety function and no PROFINET or PROFIBUS interface; if you need these, or vector control, look at the G120C or G120.
Nine frame sizes: single-phase 200 V to 240 V from 0.12 kW to 3 kW (FSAA to FSAD) and three-phase 380 V to 480 V from 0.37 kW to 30 kW (FSA to FSE). FSD and FSE have an integrated braking module. Ambient temperature is -10 °C to 40 °C without derating and up to 60 °C with derating; coated boards, a wide voltage range and Keep Running mode help on unstable supplies.
USS and Modbus RTU are available on terminals (RS-485). The optional Smart Access module (a web server) allows commissioning, operation and diagnostics from a phone, tablet or laptop, and the battery-operated Parameter Loader transfers parameters even without power on the converter. Connection and application macros shorten the configuration of inputs and outputs.
ECO mode for V/f and V²/f, Hibernation mode at low load, and energy monitoring without measuring equipment.
The V20 is the converter Siemens names as the replacement for the G110 in its migration flyer. Siemens positions the V20 for simple motion sequences with basic requirements and the G120C for continuous motion with mid-range performance; so wherever PROFINET, STO or vector control is needed, go to the G120C or G120.

Siemens positions the V20 for simple motion sequences with basic requirements and the G120C for continuous motion with mid-range performance. The V20 starts at 0.12 kW and is also available on single-phase 200 V to 240 V, has a built-in BOP and supports only USS and Modbus RTU. The G120C is three-phase 380 V to 480 V only and starts at 0.55 kW, but has sensorless vector control, STO, PROFINET, EtherNet/IP and PROFIBUS DP. If you need none of these, the V20 is enough.
In Siemens data sheets, codes 6SL3210-5BB… are the single-phase 200 V to 240 V units and 6SL3210-5BE… the three-phase 380 V to 480 V units. The letter U marks unfiltered, C a Class A filter on three-phase models and B a Class B filter on single-phase models. The Flat Plate version has the prefix 6SL3216. The middle part of the code gives the power; for example …13-7 is 0.37 kW and …17-5 is 0.75 kW. Confirm the code in the Industry Mall before ordering.
Yes, in its "Let's switch over!" flyer Siemens presents the V20 as the replacement for the G110 and calls the switchover simple. The V20 has the same 0.12 kW to 3 kW range on single-phase 230 V. Siemens does not state that dimensions, terminals or parameters are identical, so recheck the wiring and the parameters. Details are on the G110 page.
With the converter's built-in BOP, or with the optional Smart Access module, a web server that works in any HTML5-capable browser on a phone, tablet or laptop. For series commissioning the battery-operated Parameter Loader copies parameters from one converter to another even without power on the converter.
Siemens' operating instructions and catalog describe neither STO nor PROFINET or PROFIBUS for the V20; communication is USS and Modbus RTU on RS-485 terminals. For STO, PROFINET or PROFIBUS look at the G120C or G120.
