Siemens DIGSI protection engineering software (DIGSI 4 and DIGSI 5)

Which version for which relay?

• DIGSI 5 for all SIPROTEC 5 devices (including SIPROTEC 5 Compact such as 7SX800). The current version is V11.00 (Edition 03.2026).
• DIGSI 4 for SIPROTEC 4 and SIPROTEC Compact (the earlier Compact series, not SIPROTEC 5 Compact) and, according to Siemens' download entry, SIPROTEC 3 and SIPROTEC 2. The current version is V4.94 SP1.
• Both generations can be installed on one computer. Reyrolle relays are not configured with DIGSI; their tool is Reydisp.

DIGSI 5: editions and licensing

Siemens offers DIGSI 5 in three editions, Compact, Standard and Premium, and a Premium Scientific edition for universities, colleges and research institutes:

• Compact: runs without a licence key with a very limited set of functions; according to Siemens' tender text a project is limited to a single device.
• Standard: several devices in one project without a limit on the number, the IEC 61850 System Configurator and editors for CFC, single-line and device configuration.
• Premium: Standard plus integrated test and start-up functions (the test suite and test sequences that run in the relay without external test equipment).

Standard and Premium need one licence key per computer and are sold in bundles of 1, 5 or 10. Without a key DIGSI 5 runs as Compact or as a 30-day trial (with Premium functions). SIGRA for fault record analysis is an option package. Delivery is by Online Software Delivery (download) or DVD, and the licence is transferred to the computer with the Automation License Manager.

DIGSI 4: editions

DIGSI 4 is sold on SiePortal under numbers 7XS54…: Basis (7XS5400-0AA00), Professional (7XS5402-0AA00), Professional + IEC 61850 (7XS5403-0AA00), a 30-day trial (7XS5401-1AA00) and two upgrades from Basis (7XS5407-0AA00 and 7XS5408-0AA00). The Basis, Professional and Professional + IEC 61850 articles come on DVD-ROM with a licence for 10 computers. The CFC editor is part of Professional. Optional packages are SIGRA, Display Editor, CFC Editor, DIGSI 4 Remote and the IEC 61850 System Configurator.

The installers are on Siemens Industry Support (SIOS): "DIGSI 5 V11.00 incl. ServicePack 1 and Previous Versions" (entry 109997268; contains the IEC 61850 System Configurator, SIGRA and a Premium trial) and "DIGSI 4 V4.94 incl. Hotfix 1 Full Version + Device Drivers" (entry 109740982; a 30-day trial without a key, by entering Trial as the serial number). Device drivers have separate entries for each SIPROTEC 5 family. Buy the licences from SiePortal or a Siemens office.

Operating system and hardware

DIGSI 5 V11.00: Windows 11 Professional and Enterprise (23H2, 24H2, 25H2), Windows 10 Enterprise LTSC and Windows Server 2019, 2022 and 2025 are fully tested, and Windows 7 is prohibited. Minimum hardware is an Intel Core i3-6100U, 8 GB RAM and 20 GB of disk space; recommended is an i5-12600HE, 16 GB RAM (32 GB for large projects) and a 50 GB SSD. Languages: Chinese, Czech, English, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Polish, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish, Turkish and Ukrainian; there is no Persian.

DIGSI 4 V4.94: according to the product information (edition 12.2019) Windows 7 SP1, Windows 10 (64-bit, up to version 1909) and Windows Server 2008 R2 to 2019 are supported, and Windows 8 and 8.1 are prohibited. Windows 11 is not mentioned in that document. .NET Framework 3.5 has to be installed manually on Windows 10.

DIGSI and Reyrolle

DIGSI does not configure Reyrolle relays, but the Reyrolle 5 catalogue says IEC 61850 engineering can use Siemens' IEC 61850 System Configurator as used by DIGSI. Siemens also sells it standalone (7XS5461-0AA00, "valid with installed Reydisp Manager or 3rd party IEDs").

Status

The DIGSI 4 and DIGSI 5 article numbers checked on SiePortal are "Active Product", except one DVD article (P1V48) that is "Phase Out Announce" with P1X347 (the same package as a download) named as its successor.
