Production status: Phase-out
According to the Siemens Industry Mall (checked on 2 November 2026), all eight LOGO! 8.4 base modules (suffix 0BA2) and their expansion modules and TDE are still listed as an active product (PM300), but all of them carry a product phase-out date of 1 April 2027. Older generations have already gone: 0BA0 since 1 October 2022 and 0BA1 (LOGO! 8.3) since 7 March 2024, with 0BA2 named as their successor. The next generation, LOGO! 9 (suffix 0BA3), is active in the Mall today but is not a drop-in replacement: the LOGO! 9 system manual (04/2026) states that it is incompatible with any previous series, so LOGO! 8 expansion modules and TDE displays do not work with it, and old programs have to be converted with LOGO! Soft Comfort V9. For existing installations, ask Siemens or your distributor about stock and spare-parts supply after 1 April 2027; for a new project, look at LOGO! 9 first.

Overview
LOGO! 8 is Siemens' logic module (mini controller) for small control tasks, where timers, counters, auxiliary relays and simple logic are built into one small DIN-rail device instead of several separate relays and timers. The program is written on a PC with LOGO! Soft Comfort as a ladder diagram (LAD) or function block diagram (FBD) and loaded into the device; simple settings can also be changed directly on the device's own display and keys.

Models and range
There are eight base units, differing in supply voltage, output type and display: 12/24 V DC (12/24RCE), 24 V DC (24CE), 24 V AC/DC (24RCE) and 115 to 240 V AC/DC (230RCE), each with or without a display (the letter o at the end of the name). Every unit has 8 digital inputs and 4 outputs. The outputs are relays (up to 10 A), except on the 24CE, which has transistor outputs (0.3 A). On the 12/24RCE and 24CE, 4 of the inputs can be configured as 0 to 10 V analog inputs.
With the DM8, DM16 and AM2 expansion modules, a system can reach up to 24 digital inputs, 20 digital outputs, 8 analog inputs and 8 analog outputs. The maximum program size is 400 blocks.
Communication
Every base unit has a 10/100 Mbit/s Ethernet port. It is used to communicate with SIMATIC S7 controllers and other LOGO! devices, for Modbus TCP/IP (as client or server), for time synchronization with NTP, and for the built-in web server for monitoring and control from a browser. The LOGO! 8.4 generation (order numbers ending in 0BA2) adds cloud and MQTT connections: AWS, Azure, Alibaba and a generic MQTT broker.
Lifecycle position
In November 2026 all LOGO! 8.4 devices are still listed as an active product in the Siemens Industry Mall, but they carry a product phase-out date of 1 April 2027, and Siemens has launched the next generation, LOGO! 9. Details and compatibility limits are given in the lifecycle note and the FAQ.

Is LOGO! 8 being phased out, and is LOGO! 9 a direct replacement?

LOGO! 9 (suffix 0BA3) is the next generation but not a direct replacement: the LOGO! 9 system manual (04/2026) states that the series is incompatible with any previous series, so LOGO! 8 expansion modules and TDE displays do not work with it. What do the letters in the device name (RCE, CE, o) mean?
12/24 means a 12/24 V DC supply and 230 means 115 to 240 V AC/DC. R means relay outputs (without R the outputs are solid-state), C is the integrated real-time clock, E is the Ethernet interface, and an o at the end means the version without display (LOGO! Pure). For example, the 24CEo is a 24 V DC unit with transistor outputs, a clock and Ethernet, and no display.
How many inputs and outputs can one LOGO! 8 system have at most?
At most 24 digital inputs, 20 digital outputs, 8 analog inputs and 8 analog outputs, using the DM8, DM16 and AM2 expansion modules. The exact combination depends on the base unit and modules: the 24RCE and 230RCE have no onboard analog inputs, so these must be added with AM2 modules.
What is the difference between LOGO! 8.3 and LOGO! 8.4?
The suffix 0BA1 is LOGO! 8.3 and 0BA2 is LOGO! 8.4. According to the 06/2023 system manual, 8.4 extends cloud connectivity from AWS to Azure, Alibaba and a generic MQTT broker, adds a decimal data format for cloud data, adds the VX and VR variable memory areas, can send e-mails, has a soft keyboard on the display and also accepts microSD cards formatted with exFAT. According to the Mall product description, older programs run on 8.4. The 0BA1 devices are listed as discontinued since 7 March 2024, with 0BA2 as their successor.
Which software is needed to program LOGO! 8?
For 0BA2 devices, LOGO! Soft Comfort V8.4 or higher. Siemens lists the V8.4 DVD (6ED1058-0BA08-0YA1) as end of lifecycle (PM500) since 23 October 2026, with 6ED1058-0BA08-0YA3 (the V9 edition) as its successor. According to the LOGO! 9 manual, the LOGO! 8 device types are also defined in LOGO! Soft Comfort V9.0.
How does LOGO! 8 talk to HMI panels and S7 controllers?
Through the Ethernet port, using the S7 protocol or Modbus TCP. Each device supports up to 16 TCP/IP connections for S7 and Modbus, of which at most one can be an HMI panel. The data sheet of the Basic Panels also lists LOGO! among the controllers that can be connected.
