Overview
SIRIUS 3RP25 is the Siemens electronic timing relay for all time-delayed switching in control, starting and protection circuits. It comes in two kinds: single-function units for one defined job such as ON-delay, and multifunction units (3RP2505) that are set with a function selector to 13 or 27 functions and so cut down stock variety.

Timing functions
- ON-delay: the output switches on after the set time; used to suppress interference pulses and to start motors gradually so the supply is not overloaded.
- OFF-delay: with a control signal on B1 (3RP2535) or without a control signal, timing from the moment the supply is removed (3RP2540); used to keep a fan or motor running after the command is removed and to shut a plant down selectively.
- Asymmetrical flasher (3RP2555) with separately adjustable pulse and interval, and star-delta (3RP2574, 3RP2576 and, with coasting time, 3RP2560) with 50 ms between opening the star contact and closing the delta contact to prevent a short circuit between phases.
- Multifunction 3RP2505: ON-delay and OFF-delay, ON and OFF delay together, symmetrical flasher, passing make contact, retriggerable interval relay, additive ON-delay, pulse delay and watchdog relay. The two-contact version (27 functions) also gives each function with an instantaneous contact next to the delayed one and has the star-delta function.
Time ranges and supply
On most seven-range devices (the 3RP2540 stops at 600 s) the time range is chosen with one switch and the exact value with a second one: 0.05 to 1 s, 0.5 to 10 s, 5 to 100 s, 0.5 to 10 min, 0.05 to 1 h, 0.5 to 10 h and 5 to 100 h. The wide-voltage version runs on 12 to 240 V AC/DC; the article number also provides for 24 V AC/DC versions and combination-voltage versions for 200 to 240 V and 380 to 440 V AC. The output is one or two changeover contacts, one semiconductor NO (two-wire), two NO or three NO.
Construction and mounting
100 mm high and 90 mm deep; 17.5 mm wide for devices with one contact element and 22.5 mm wide for devices with more contacts. Removable screw-type or spring-loaded (push-in) terminals, and tool-free mounting on a 35 mm rail. Change the time range and the function only with the device de-energised.

Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between ON-delay, OFF-delay with a control signal and OFF-delay without one?
With ON-delay, timing starts when the supply voltage is applied and the output switches on after the set time. With OFF-delay with a control signal (3RP2535) the supply is permanently on A1/A2; applying a signal to B1 switches the output at once and the time starts when the signal is removed (the signal must last at least 35 ms and the relay is retriggerable). With OFF-delay without a control signal (3RP2540) the output switches on when the supply is applied and the time starts when the supply is removed, so no separate control wire is needed.
When should I take a multifunction unit and when a single-function one?
If the function is fixed and you only need one job, a single-function unit is enough and mostly fits in 17.5 mm. If you want one model for several uses or set the function on site, 3RP2505 is the choice: 13 functions with one changeover contact, one semiconductor NO or two parallel changeover contacts, or 27 functions with two contacts that can be set as two parallel changeover contacts or one delayed plus one instantaneous changeover contact.
Which model should I take for star-delta starting?
3RP2574 (fixed range 1 to 20 s) and 3RP2576 (3 to 60 s) have two NO contacts: an instantaneous star contact and a delayed delta contact that share a root, with 50 ms between opening the star and closing the delta. If you also need a coasting time, 3RP2560 has three NO contacts, a star-delta time of 1 to 20 s and a coasting time of 30 to 600 s.
Can the time or the function be changed while the device is live?
No; changes to the time range and the function only take effect when made with the device de-energised. Apply the control signal on B1 only when the supply is already on A1/A2, and A1 and B1 must be at the same potential. On combination-voltage versions never connect both voltages at the same time.
What replaces an old 3RP15 timing relay?
The 3RP15 data sheets (such as 3RP1525-1AQ30 and 3RP1505-1AP30) are marked 'Phased-out product'. For conversion from 3RP15 to 3RP25 Siemens names a conversion tool at www.siemens.com/sirius/conversion-tool. Before buying, compare voltage, dimensions and function against the data sheet.
